History:
Ausone is a 7-hectare wine estate located in Saint-Émilion. In AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, it is one of the first two estates with Château Cheval Blanc to have been classified Premier Cru classé “A”. The estate owes its name to the poet Ausone, who is said to have owned the Villa Lucaniacum in Saint-Émilion in the 4th century.
Recent studies show that Ausone is one of the oldest vineyards in the region. This prestigious property had been in the Dubois-Challons family for three centuries before coming under the management of Alain Vauthier who became the owner. Ausone also produces a second wine, Chapelle d’Ausone.
This second wine is produced in quantities of 4,000 to 10,000 bottles depending on the quality of the vintage and the choice of wine lots selected to go into the Grand Vin.
Environmental approach: Biodynamic vineyard management (not certified)
