This famous chateau takes its name from the majestic 17th century tower in its grounds. Situated in the extreme South of the appellation, almost on the edge of St Julien and the bank of the Garonne to the East, Chateau Latour extends over a 65 hectare quaternary gravel mound – however, only the prestigious 45 hectare “paddock” is exclusively reserved for the production of the “grand vin”. For centuries Latour has dominated over the other Premiers Crus of Southern Médoc, and for some, the other wines of Bordeaux, due to the exceptional quality and unbroken regularity of its wines. However, such richness often demands extreme patience before the full splendor of these wines is released.
