Version Française Assemblage : 61% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc

English Version Blend: 61% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (171), June 2007: 92/100

The dark plum/ruby-hued 2004 Haut-Brion exhibits a noble, discrete, smoky bouquet revealing notions of plum liqueur, black currants, sweet cherries, and subtle earth. In addition to its aromatic complexity, this medium-bodied effort reveals classic elegance and delicacy as well as sweet fruit in the mouth and a long finish. Give this streamlined, civilized wine 2-4 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 20-25 years. It is amazingly similar to Haut-Brion’s 1999.

James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, March 2007: 95/100

Wonderful aromas of dried flowers, currants, berries and mineral. Full-bodied, yet reserved and refined. Lovely texture, with a pure silk feel. Seamless and beautiful red. Great length. A joy to taste. Even better than from the barrel. Best after 2012.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, June 2008: 18,5/20

Medium intensity. Very well integrated, neat nose without massive intensity but attractive inky dryness. Super fresh acidity but not aggressive and lovely supple tannins. There’s not the weight of the 2005 on the palate but there is lovely balance. Really fragrant and fresh.Drink 2013-28

Château Haut-Brion-1er Cru Classé en 1855-Appellation Pessac-Léognan
Château Haut-Brion Château Haut-Brion is a First Growth in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. It is located in Pessac, Graves just one mile (2 km) from the city of Bordeaux. The vineyard consists of 109 acres (441,000 m²) producing 12,000 to 15,000 cases of wine each year. Located in the Graves region, it was the only non-Médoc estate to be included in the 1855 classification.

The cultivation of the vineyard of the château Haut-Brion in the middle of town with jealous care, its ability to age more than its neighbours – up to about twenty years, or even more, the men working under the lead of Jean Delmas, the modern cuvier, the artisitcally lead winemaking…. All this contributes to the success of a domainn, producing the greatest red wines and rare white wines.
Average age of vines is 30 years.

Château Bahans Haut-Brion, although a second wine, has the same treatment throughout as Château Haut-Brion. Grown on the same land as Château Haut-Brion, Château Bahans Haut-Brion, profits from the same planting and harvest techniques, and has the advantage of the same rigorous selection and thoroughness in vinification as the "Grand Vin".

Bahans Haut-Brion is aged partly in new barrels and partly in barrels that have been used for the previous year's First Growth. Undoubtedly, this Second Wine of a First Classified
Growth, Château Bahans Haut-Brion, is a great wine on its own merits.
