LE CLARENCE DE HAUT-BRION
ASSEMBLAGE: 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 51% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc

Robert Parker – 87/100 Drink 2010-2017

The 2007 Le Clarence de Haut-Brion (formerly called Bahans Haut-Brion) possesses sweet and sour cherry, damp earth, spice box, smoke, and forest floor characteristics. It is pure, medium-bodied, and elegant, much in the style of its bigger sibling. Drink it over the next 6-7 years. Drink 2010-2017.

Jancis Robinson – 17/20 Drink 2012-2018

New name, new wine style! 51% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc. Smoky, toasty, leathery notes on the nose. Pretty impressive intensity for a second wine! Round and supple on the palate - almost not like Bordeaux at all! Seems very Merlot based. Soft and supple with some hint of first growth polish. Neat, dry finish and pretty good length just no great tannic depths. Debut vintage for this new name for the old Bahans, second wine of Haut-Brion. Drink 2011-16

Neal Martin – 87-89/100 Drink -

Formerly Bahans de Haut Brion, the 2007 is a blend of 51% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc This has a light slightly herbaceous nose but with good clarity. A leafiness in the background, though staying in the background. The palate is better than the nose – good weight, grainy tannins and very good definition. Furry finish with notes of blackberries and blueberries. Good length and more persistency than I was anticipating from the nose that just lacks a little tension. Still – a good second wine in a difficult vintage. Tasted April 2008

Château Haut-Brion-1er Cru Classé en 1855-Appellation Pessac-Léognan
Château Haut-Brion Château Haut-Brion is a First Growth in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. It is located in Pessac, Graves just one mile (2 km) from the city of Bordeaux. The vineyard consists of 109 acres (441,000 m²) producing 12,000 to 15,000 cases of wine each year. Located in the Graves region, it was the only non-Médoc estate to be included in the 1855 classification.

The cultivation of the vineyard of the château Haut-Brion in the middle of town with jealous care, its ability to age more than its neighbours – up to about twenty years, or even more, the men working under the lead of Jean Delmas, the modern cuvier, the artisitcally lead winemaking…. All this contributes to the success of a domainn, producing the greatest red wines and rare white wines.
Average age of vines is 30 years.

Château Bahans Haut-Brion, although a second wine, has the same treatment throughout as Château Haut-Brion. Grown on the same land as Château Haut-Brion, Château Bahans Haut-Brion, profits from the same planting and harvest techniques, and has the advantage of the same rigorous selection and thoroughness in vinification as the "Grand Vin".

Bahans Haut-Brion is aged partly in new barrels and partly in barrels that have been used for the previous year's First Growth. Undoubtedly, this Second Wine of a First Classified
Growth, Château Bahans Haut-Brion, is a great wine on its own merits.
